Here is the list of jockeys who rode at least a double at any of the Tab meetings last week, along with the trainers for whom they rode the winners. This table is colour coded to highlight the outperformers and it is definitely worth noting these riders and combinations.

It is also worth noting when a jockey who has previously won on a horse is replacing a rider who has not done so. Whilst history shows that this is not a prime indicator of likely success, it is significant in some cases.

The list below shows the winning horses last week that raced with a (previous) winning jockey replacing a rider who had not previously been successful on the horse.

Australia's "winningest" trainers last week - Spotlight on Garret Lynch

Here is the list of trainers who trained at least a double at any of the Tab meetings last week, along with the jockeys for who rode the winners. This table is colour coded to highlight the outperformers and it is worth noting these stables and the combinations.

A key factor to be considered in selection-making is the stable, and the trainer-jockey combination. The Wizard weekly "winningest" trainer report is a valuable guide as to which stable/trainer and jockey-trainer combination is currently in form.

To add to this weekly insight, we SPOTLIGHT a particular stable and post an in-depth coverage of its record with different riders, over a period of two years.

The Jockey/Trainer combinations that are included here are based on the following criteria: The Jockey/Trainer combination is listed when a jockey's record shows at least 2 wins when riding the Wizard top-rater, or at least 3 wins when riding the race favourite, or 4 wins if the runner is in the $2.00 to $5.90 odds range, for that stable. Also included are the overall percentage stats for the jockey when riding a Wizard top rater or race favourite, for any stable. Note, that these stats cover the rider's results in all races, irrespective of location.

Here is the Spotlight on Garret Lynch which makes for some interesting reading.

Garret Lynch is a Murray Bridge-based South Australian trainer particularly prominent in country and provincial racing.

Background

Garret started training in 2011. However, his primary equine passion initially was rodeo riding, where he won multiple state titles and a national title before injury pushed him into training horses. It was in the 2021-2022 season that he really committed to training full-time. murraybridge

Stable location

Garret is based at Murray Bridge. That location places him in close proximity to the bulk of South Australia's country racing circuit, where he has been especially effective. The stable has expanded from an initial four horses to around 30 horses in work. Most of those horses have been inexpensive purchases. It was reported that at one time the most expensive horse he had bought cost only $7,000.  trnt.org

Jockeys and key riders

A key rider for the stable is Harry Grace, a long-time friend, who last month rode Alainge to Garret's biggest career win in the Listed Port Adelaide Cup. Another jockey strongly associated with the stable is Connor Murtagh. Garret has a policy of engaging jockeys who ride work and help the stable, and is also a supporter of apprentice riders, including Tala Hutchinson and Alyssa Webb. morphettville.com youtube

Major wins and results so far

The biggest win to date was that of Alainge in her 14/1 Listed victory.  Currently, Garret sits on top of the overall 2025-2026 S.A. Trainer Premiership with 71 wins, 16 clear of Travis Doudle. Of those winners 36 have been on the provincial circuit and 32 on country tracks. morphettville.com

Training philosophy and placing horses

Garret aims to place horses so that they can win multiple races and rack up doubles or trebles. He is willing to travel horses to suitable races and this approach has paid off with a steady stream of winners. The aim of the Wizard Watch report is to highlight on race-morning which horses have been the most significant firmers overnight and earlier on race-morning. Wizard monitors race morning market trends over the first 3 hours of race day betting to determine which horses are anticipated to run above earlier pre-post expectations and which horses have had their higher probabilities confirmed.

Given the significance of this early/informed market action, the odds about the Wizard Watch Morning Movers naturally skew towards the shorter odds, but this is compensated by the strike rate. Double figure odds about successful Market Movers are rare, but each-way odds winners are backable.

Andrew Mallyon was initially based in Victoria but he relocated to Queensland where he has enjoyed a career resurgence, including blacktype success.

Early life and racing background

Andrew was born into a household prominent in the Victorian racing scene. He began race riding in the early 2000s and rode his first winner at Hay in country New South Wales. Andrew is part of one of Australia's bestknown racing dynasties, with multiple generations involved in the sport. His grandfather Mick Mallyon was a topclass jockey who won the Caulfield Cup three times. Andrew's father Brett Mallyon rode successfully and later trained, and Andrew was initially apprenticed to him. For much of his career, Andrew was based in Victoria, riding extensively on the Melbourne metropolitan and provincial circuits. In September 2019 he made a pivotal move, relocating from Victoria to Queensland after discussions with leading trainer Kris Lees about opportunities in the Sunshine State. Andrew's apprenticeship and early career were shaped by several prominent trainers. He was apprenticed at various times to his father Brett, and then to trainers Tony McEvoy, Mathew Ellerton and Simon Zahra, and also worked with David Hayes. Since settling in Queensland, he has ridden extensively for the Matthew Dunn stable, and his strike rate when riding this stable's favourites is currently better than 45%. Another key connection is with Kris Lees. There is also a successful partnership with Billy Healey.

Major wins and career milestones

One of Andrew's key milestones was reaching 1,000 career winners in July 2021, achieved with a victory at Ipswich, seventeen years after his first success at Hay. Among his important race victories was his first Grouplevel win in 2009 aboard General Truce in the Group 3 Maribyrnong Plate.
