Trainer Snapshot - Joseph Pride

Joseph (Joe) Pride is based at Warwick Farm in Sydney and has 50 boxes available in his stable. He began his training career in 2000 after working with John Size for four years. His first Group 1 winner was Red Oog in the 2005 Doomben 10,000 and his latest Group 1 winners are Think About It and Private Eye. For the past 10 years Joe has consistently been in the top 10 Sydney Trainer Premiership and is 9th in this current 2023-20224 season.

Watch and Wait

With some trainers there are indicators that are especially worth noting. It is a matter of watching and waiting for the right conditions occur. It might be that the trainer out-performs with runners having their first start after a spell, or in sprint races rather than over longer distances, or backing up for a repeat win in a given time period. When these 'key metrics' are in play it is worthwhile paying particular attention to the runner.

The following information is based on an analysis of results delivered by Joe Pride's runners who started at odds less than $10.00. All "out-performing" results reported below were flat-stakes profitable over the past 5 years and show the win percentage and the impact value.

General Comment

Joe Pride excels with sprinters, basically in races up to 1600m. Certainly his stable does win longer races but it is fair to say that he concentrates on the shorter events. A stable-by-stable comparison with some other top 10 trainers shows:

Percentage of runners by distance range

                                                            <1700m            1700m+

Joe Pride                                               91%                  9%

Chris Waller                                          72%                28%

Gai Waterhouse & Adrian Bott          80%                20%

Ciaron Maher                                      76%                 24%

Trainer & Jockey Combination (Joe Pride)

  • When the horse starts at odds between $2.00 and $5.90
