Australia's "winningest" trainers last week - SPOTLIGHT on Tony Gollan

Here is the list of trainers who trained at least a double at any of the Tab meetings last week, along with the jockeys for who rode the winners. This table is colour coded to highlight the outperformers and it is definitely worth noting these stables and the combinations.

A key factor to be considered in selection-making is the stable, and the trainer-jockey combination. The Wizard weekly "winningest" trainer report is a valuable guide as to which stable/trainer and jockey-trainer combination is currently in form.

The First Six Months - The Wizard Matrix Report results stable and successful

This is the second longer-term results summary of the performance of key elements of Wizard's Matrix  Report since the report's introduction last December. We publish these longer-term results summaries so that subscribers can see the results of the Wizard's ratings options, and Report-content, and thereby formulate a selecting and betting strategy that suits them individually. The Wizard ratings should not be seen as "tips", rather as objective assessments that can be used to inform one's own judgement as to the relative chances of the runners in a race.

The key ratings included in Matrix are the Wizard Weight Rating (WRat), consistently successful since first published in the Wizard newspaper in 1988, the Wizard Raceday Rating, and the Wizard Matrix Rating (MaxR) that integrates the key elements of weight-rating/form/market-moves into one ratings figure.

(One point worth noting is that these latest results confirm the finding of the first Quarterly report that showed the MaxR 100 pointer outperforms the traditional WRat1 100 pointer by some 18%; now after 8,545 races have been rated.)

Matrix also highlights likely "outperformers" by identifying Selectives. Recognizing that the vast majority of recreational punters (and 99.9% of punters would fall into this category) do not have the time available to undertake a comprehensive analysis of all possible betting opportunities, Wizard developed its Selectives options. Selectives aims to highlight possible "outperformers", thereby reducing the number of bets, and at the same time, improving the overall strike rate.

The results for the first six months show that this approach has been successful, with the Selectives consistently outperforming base ratings.

The results above show the monthly strike rates for the three key ratings for the six months that Matrix has been available to Wizard users. The top-rated runner strike rates are shown for the Wizard WRat 100 pointer, the Raceday Qualifier, and MaxR 100 pointer. The top-two strike rate is also shown, as well as the top-three and top-four WRat runners. The results achieved by the three Selectives options are also shown,

The highest strike rate for each option is colour coded: blue for the single top-rated option, and green for the top-two rated option, with the best overall single-selection strike rated being colour-coded yellow.

The results to date show that Wizard continues to deliver a remarkably consistent level of performance, with both the month-on-month and overall results being remarkably stable. Now looking forward to the next six months and the full-year report with renewed confidence.

To provide an insight into the significance of the information in the daily Wizard Magic report here is an update on its results covering the period since the Magic report was introduced, 14 September 2024.

For comparison purposes, the base figure, as always, is the Wizard WRat 100 pointer result. During the period under review there were 13,328 WRat 100 pointers included in the Magic reports. These runners delivered a strong 27.8% win strike rate. This is the base rate for comparison purposes.

Now, with Magic, you can overlay other factors on the WRat 100 and potentially improve this strike rate.

For example, in the 3,169 races where the WRat 100 is shown as having firmed by 3% or more overnight and/or on race-morning, the strike rate improves to 37.1%

In the 658 races where the WRat 100 is shown as having firmed by 3% or more overnight and/or on race-morning, AND is flagged (F) as a Filter qualifier, the strike rate improves to 41.6%

In the 638 races where the WRat 100 is shown as having firmed by 3% or more overnight and/or on race-morning, AND is flagged (N) as a No-Negatives qualifier, the strike rate improves to 35.4%

In the 914 races where the WRat 100 is shown as having firmed by 3% or more overnight and/or on race-morning, AND is flagged (FN) as both a Filter qualifier and a No-Negatives qualifier, the strike rate improves to 38.7%

In the 2,263 races where the WRat 100 is shown as being the biggest overnight and/or on race-morning firmer the strike rate improves to 40.0%

Matrix day-by-day results for Saturday and Sunday racing

The tables show the results for the past eight weeks for the day on which racing occurred. So, today being Saturday, this Matrix DOW (Day of Week) report covers the past eight Saturday and Sunday results. The day-after results are included so that they are available on race-eve, rather than only on race morning.

(The daily Matrix report aims to assist subscribers contain the number of bets to manageable proportions and improve the strike rate. The report is posted to our website between 10:30am and 10:45am each day with an update at 12 noon.)

Wizard Ratings, Raceday, Matrix, and Selectives results

We publish these full results daily so that subscribers can see the results of the Wizard's ratings options, and Report-content, and thereby formulate a selecting and betting strategy that suits them individually. The Wizard ratings should not be seen as "tips", rather as objective assessments that can be used to inform one's own judgement as to the relative chances of the runners in a race.

The full day-by-day results for Wizard (Wrat) top 4 rated runners, the Raceday Qualifier, and the Matrix (MaxR) 100 pointer, the MaxR top-two, the Matrix *EOam+MaxR100 qualifier, the Matrix W1+MaxR100 qualifier, and the Matrix W1+*EO+MaxR100 qualifier. Also included are the overall results for last week and the last four weeks. The 2023-2024 column shows the WRat results for the full 2023-2024 racing season. This results summary is colour coded so that it is easier for readers to track the relative performance of the Top Rated (blue) and Top-Two Rated (green) ratings options on a daily, and longer term, basis. The best overall qualifier (yellow) is also highlighted.

The following table shows this week's results of alternative options with respect to possible Matrix Selectives combinations, as well as weekly summaries. These combinations are accessible via the Wizard MATRIX report which is posted to our website between 10:30am and 10:45am each day.

(Key: The first of the two columns for each Selective combination shows number of qualifying races and the second column shows the strike rate. Headings: RWM is Raceday,Watch,Magic,  RWM 2/3 means two or three qualifying, Rday is Raceday report qualifier , Magic is Magic report qualifier, R/M is Raceday and Magic, WR1 is Wrat 100, MR1 is MaxR 100.)

The following table shows where the winner of each race run yesterday was rated by WRat, WMod, WHcp, and WExpk and was the qualifier in the Wizard Raceday Report. (Note: The Wrat [W] winner results report on both the top rated and top-two rated winners.) The Raceday Report winners under the Top Rated column are from those races where there was only one Raceday qualifier, and under the Top 2 Rated on the rare occasions where there were two qualifiers in a race.
