What follows are some of the weekly results updates I provide for subscribers to the Superform magazine.

Warren Block reports on week ending Aug 23: Pleased to report that it was another winning week for the Morning Mail Selectives. A wet track in Melbourne meant that I found only two runners last Saturday that met my criteria as the day’s "best bets" and from these we had Ariante as a winner at 2/1. The Selectives have now had 462 winners from 1322 runners since they were introduced in Nov 96, a 35% win rate. Last week the Superform telephone service covered 37 races across 6 race meetings. On Saturday there were 25 races rated and from these the winner was the top rated Superform runner on 9 occasions (36%), a very good result, and was in the top two rated runners 13 times (52%), another excellent result. From the 25 races we had the winner in our rated horses 21 times, an 84% success rate. Midweek with C graders there were 12 races rated, with 1 top rated winner (8%), 5 rated in the top two (42%), and overall midweek there were 9 winners of the 12 rated races in the nominated runners (75%). Taking the week as a whole there were 37 races rated for 10 top rated winners (27%), 18 in the top two rated runners (49%), and 30 where the winner was a rated runner (81%). Given the time of year, when resuming horses often cloud the issue, this week’s results were particularly solid.

Warren Block reports on week ending Aug 17: A couple of inches brought to an end our 9 week winning sequence of the Morning Mail Selectives when Damigos ran second. We had three Selectives for the week with the winner Mardi Gras failing to reach even money as I had hoped, and there were the two losers on Saturday. This calendar year we have had 42 from 107, a 39% win rate. Last week the Superform telephone service covered 39 races across 7 race meetings. On Saturday there were 23 races rated and from these the winner was the top rated Superform runner on 7 occasions (30%) and was in the top two rated runners 7 times (30%). From the 23 races we had the winner in our rated horses 21 times, a 91% success rate. On Sunday I rated 7 races and from these we had 2 top rated winners (29%) and 4 in the top two (57%). Overall on Sunday there were 6 winners in the 7 rated races, a 86% success rate. Midweek there were 9 races rated, with 3 top rated winners (33%), 3 rated in the top two (33%), and overall midweek there were 9 winners of the 9 rated races in the nominated runners (100%). Taking the week as a whole there were 39 races rated for 12 top rated winners (31%), 14 in the top two rated runners (36%), and 36 where the winner was a rated runner (92%).

Warren Block reports for week ending Aug 10: Nine winning weeks in a row for the Superform Morning Mail Selectives and it was even more pleasing than usual last week to ring up another flat stakes profit given the difficulty of potting the winner in one at some of the meetings. The Selectives last week saw one winner from the four bets but that winner was On The List that started at 13/2, very good odds for one of the day’s best bets. Last week the Superform telephone service covered 46 races across 8 race meetings. On Saturday there were 24 races rated and from these the winner was the top rated Superform runner on 7 occasions (29%) and was in the top two rated runners 11 times (46%), both very acceptable results. From the 24 races we had the winner in our rated horses 20 times, a 83% success rate. On Sunday I rated 6 races and from these we had 1 top rated winner (17%), that was The Big Ask at 9/1, and 1 in the top two (17%). Overall on Sunday there were 6 winners in the 6 rated races, a 100% success rate. Midweek there were 16 races rated, with 3 top rated winners (19%), 7 rated in the top two (44%), and overall midweek there were 11 winners of the 16 rated races in the nominated runners (69%). Taking the week as a whole there were 46 races rated for 11 top rated winners (24%), 19 in the top two rated runners (41%), and 37 where the winner was a rated runner (80%). Last week the weekend stats were solid, it was the poor quality midweek fields in the city that lowered the overall percentage.

Warren Block reports on week ending Aug 3: It was another excellent winning week for the Superform Morning Mail best bets, the Selectives, when last Saturday we had two from three, Promising Joy at 9/2 and Pekan Lady also 9/2. This was the 8th winning week in a row for the Selectives, and the long term strike rate of better than 35% seems to be holding steady. For the week the Superform telephone service covered 38 races across 6 race meetings. On Saturday there were 28 races rated and from these the winner was the top rated Superform runner on 13 occasions (46%), an excellent result, and was in the top two rated runners 13 times (46%). From the 28 races we had the winner in our rated horses 23 times, an 82% success rate, consistent with the long term figure. Midweek there were 10 races rated, with 3 top rated winners (30%), 5 rated in the top two (50%), and overall midweek there were 8 winners of the 10 rated races in the nominated runners (80%). Taking the week as a whole there were 38 races rated for 16 top rated winners (42%), 18 in the top two rated runners (47%), and 31 where the winner was a rated runner (82%). Again, these are very pleasing figures.

Warren Block reports on week ending July 27: It was another very satisfactory week for the Superform services with the Morning Mail Selectives again delivering a profit with a 2 from 4 result; the winners were St Basil and Patezza. That is now seven straight winning weeks for these "best bets". In summary, last week the Superform telephone service covered 49 races across 8 race meetings. On Saturday there were 26 races rated and from these the winner was the top rated Superform runner on 9 occasions (35%) and was in the top two rated runners 16 times (62%), the later figure being very good hit rate. From the 26 races we had the winner in our rated horses 24 times, a 92% success rate, again above expectations. On Sunday, on a heavy track, I rated 7 races and from these we had 1 top rated winner (14%) and 2 in the top two (29%). Overall on Sunday there were 6 winners in the 7 rated races, a 86% success rate. Midweek there were 16 races rated, with 5 top rated winners (31%), 6 rated in the top two (38%), and overall midweek there were 13 winners of the 16 rated races in the nominated runners (81%). Taking the week as a whole there were 49 races rated for 15 top rated winners (31%), 24 in the top two rated runners (49%), and 43 where the winner was a rated runner (88%). These are a pleasing set of numbers, especially in the depths of winter.

Warren Block reports on week ending July 20: Space limitation meant this report did not appear in the magazine last week but I can report that two weeks ago the Selectives made a profit with Royal Sash winning at $6.00 and last weekend we had one from one when the one and only "best bet" Catch me Mate won easily. That is now six straight winning weeks for the Selectives, not bad for winter racing. Overall last week the Superform telephone service covered 42 races across 8 race meetings. On Saturday there were 30 races rated and from these the winner was the top rated Superform runner on 9 occasions (30%) and was in the top two rated runners 16 times (53%), the later figure being a most pleasing result. From the 30 races we had the winner in our rated horses 24 times, a 80% success rate. It was much tougher with the B/C graders midweek when there were 12 races rated, with 2 top rated winners (17%), 3 rated in the top two (25%), and overall midweek there were 10 winners of the 12 rated races in the nominated runners (83%). Taking the week as a whole there were 42 races rated for 11 top rated winners (26%), a touch above the long term average,19 in the top two rated runners (45%), and 34 where the winner was a rated runner (81%).

Given that we are in the middle of winter these strike rates are generally solid.

Warren Block reports on week ending Sunday Jul 13: Yet again the Morning Mail Selectives showed the way with a handy profit being delivered by Royal Sash when she won at $6.00. Of the other three Selectives, Music Star went down right on the post at $5.50, Poetic Papal ran well below his recent form and Delvecchio battled on for 4th placing. A little unusual for the day’s Best Bets that all were attractive odds so the 1 from 4 result was pretty good in the circumstances. Last week the Superform telephone service covered 56 races across 8 race meetings. On Saturday there were 30 races rated and from these the winner was the top rated Superform runner on 8 occasions (27%), above the long term average, and was in the top two rated runners 14 times (47%), another a good result. From the 30 races we had the winner in our rated horses 26 times, a 87% success rate. On Sunday I rated 8 races and from these we had 1 top rated winners (13%) and 4 in the top two (50%). Overall on Sunday there were 6 winners in the 8 rated races, a 75% success rate. Midweek there were 18 races rated, with 3 top rated winners (17%), 6 rated in the top two (33%), and overall midweek there were 13 winners of the 18 rated races in the nominated runners (72%). Taking the week as a whole there were 56 races rated for 12 top rated winners (21%), 24 in the top two rated runners (43%), and 45 where the winner was a rated runner (80%).

Warren Block reports on week ending Sunday, Jul 6: It was a narrow result but the Superform Morning Mail Selectives again finished in front last week. There were two Selectives, the wet tracks, reduced our options, and the winner was Picablu at 10/9. The other Selective was Cariboo who was obviously in trouble before the turn, finished last, and was very lame after the race. In a tough, wet track week, the Superform telephone service covered 43 races across 7 race meetings. On Saturday there were 27 races rated and from these the winner was the top rated Superform runner on 9 occasions (33%), a very pleasing figure, and was in the top two rated runners 12 times (44%). From the 27 races we had the winner in our rated horses 21 times, a 78% success rate. On Sunday, on a wet Sandown track, I rated 7 races and from these we had 1 top rated winner (14%) and 1 in the top two (14%). Overall on Sunday there were 4 winners in the 7 rated races, a 57% success rate. Midweek there were 13 races rated, again on slow and heavy going, without a top rated winner, 1 rated in the top two (8%). Overall midweek there were 9 winners of the 13 rated races in the nominated runners (69%). Taking the week as a whole there were 43 races rated for 10 top rated winners (23%), 14 in the top two rated runners (33%), and 34 where the winner was a rated runner (79%), just on the long term 80% figure.

Warren Block reports on week ending Jun 29: At the risk of repeating myself, again it was a case of selective betting delivering the dividend in what was, by any standard, a week of form upsets and negative form reversals. There were three Selective bets last Saturday and the winner was Evil Master who paid a pleasing $5.00 dividend. For the week as a whole the Superform telephone service covered 58 races across 9 race meetings. On Saturday there were 27 races rated and from these the winner was the top rated Superform runner on 5 occasions (19%), with Ipswich failing to produce a winner. The top two rated runners found 7 winners (26%), well below expectations. From the 27 races we had the winner in our rated horses 17 times, a 63% success rate. On Sunday I rated 12 races and from these we had 4 top rated winners (33%) and 5 in the top two (42%). Overall on Sunday there were 11 winners in the 12 rated races, a 92% success rate. At two poor quality midweek meetings there were 19 races rated, with 2 top rated winners (11%), 8 rated in the top two (42%), and overall midweek there were 13 winners of the 19 rated races in the nominated runners (68%). Taking the week as a whole there were 58 races rated for 11 top rated winners (19%), 20 in the top two rated runners (34%), and 41 where the winner was a rated runner (71%).

Warren Block reports on week ending Jun 22: Once again selective betting produced the best outcome last week. The Morning Mail Selectives had two winners from the three bets, Seances and Masked, short but they produced yet another profitable result for the week. In total the regular Superform telephone/fax service covered 37 races across 6 race meetings. On Saturday there were 26 races rated and from these the winner was the top rated Superform runner on 6 occasions (23%) and was in the top two rated runners 11 times (42%), the later figure being just on average. From the 26 races we had the winner in our rated horses 20 times, a 77% success rate, again very close to the 80% we hope to realise on a week to week basis at these Saturday meetings. Midweek there were 11 races rated, with 2 top rated winners (18%), 2 rated in the top two (18%), and overall midweek there were 5 winners of the 11 rated races in the nominated runners (45%). Taking the week as a whole there were 37 races rated for 8 top rated winners (22%), 13 in the top two rated runners (35%), and 25 where the winner was a rated runner (68%). Midweek winter racing is proving to be a very difficult venue for consistent results. We have had some good midweek results recently but the overall quality of the horses means that consistency is difficult to achieve.

Warren Block reports on week ending Jun 15: It was certainly worthwhile turning on the computer last Saturday morning to make the final decisions on the day’s Selectives for we finished up with two very nice winners from the three best bets … Euripedes at 13/4 and Evil Master at 7/2. The Player selections were also in there swinging with 6 winners from the 10 selections … Masked 9/4, Euripedes 13/4, Gullcatcher 5/2, Sir Kindle 5/4, Evil Master 7/2, and Greek Adonis 11/2. On the three tracks that were good to dead last Saturday we were right on target with 8 top rated winners from the 22 rated races, a very pleasing 36% win strike rate.

Taking Saturday as a whole, including the Adelaide meeting run on a slow track, there were 29 races rated and from these the winner was the top rated Superform runner on 8 occasions (28%) and was in the top two rated runners 15 times (52%), the later figure being a strong result. From these 29 races we had the winner in our rated horses 24 times, a 83% success rate. Midweek there were 28 races rated, with 6 top rated winners (21%), 11 rated in the top two (39%), and overall midweek there were 22 winners of the 28 rated races in the nominated runners (79%). Now taking the week as a whole there were 57 races rated for 14 top rated winners (25%), 26 in the top two rated runners (46%), and 46 where the winner was a rated runner (81%).

Warren Block reports on week ending Jun 8: After a really good result a fortnight ago last week saw the going considerably harder and this is reflected in the week’s stats. Last week the Superform telephone service covered 36 races across 6 race meetings. On Saturday there were 25 races rated and from these the winner was the top rated Superform runner on 6 occasions (24%), just on the long term average, and was in the top two rated runners 9 times (36%). From the 25 races we had the winner in our rated horses 20 times, an 80% success rate. Midweek there were 11 races rated, with 1 top rated winner (9%), 3 rated in the top two (27%), and overall midweek there were 8 winners of the 11 rated races in the nominated runners (73%). Taking the week as a whole there were 36 races rated for 7 top rated winners (19%), 12 in the top two rated runners (33%), and 28 where the winner was a rated runner (78%)… almost 80% rated winners but the figures did not fall our way on this occasion. There were some nice overlay winners in the top two selections and that was some consolation for value bettors. The Morning Mail Selectives ran well below expectations on Saturday and we finished the day without a winner.

Warren Block reports for week ending Jun 1: It was a good week overall for the Superform selections last week with the top rated runner scoring well and at very nice odds on a high proportion of winning occasions. Included in the winning odds we had 3/1 (twice), 13/4, 7/2, 9/2 (twice), 5/1, 8/1, and even an 11/1 first selection winner in the shape of Ikaros. Gee, with a 30% first selection strike rate for the week and winner’s odds like this it just doesn’t get any better. There were three Selectives and from these we had one winner, Bird Dancer on Sunday who started at the good odds of 7/2.

Overall for the week the Superform telephone service covered 47 races across 7 race meetings. On Saturday there were 28 races rated and from these the winner was the top rated Superform runner on 7 occasions (25%) and was in the top two rated runners 8 times (29%). From the 28 races we had the winner in our rated horses 22 times, a 79% success rate. On Sunday I rated 6 races and from these we had 2 top rated winners (33%) and 3 in the top two (50%). Overall on Sunday there were 4 winners in the 6 rated races, a 67% success rate. Midweek there were 13 races rated, with 5 top rated winners (38%), 7 rated in the top two (54%), and overall midweek there were 12 winners of the 13 rated races in the nominated runners (92%). Taking the week as a whole there were 47 races rated for 14 top rated winners (30%), 18 in the top two rated runners (38%), and 38 where the winner was a rated runner (81%).
