Jockeys - Worth Noting
Two jockeys in NSW have recently caught my attention.
First, Jace McMurray, who is currently on a three-month loan to trainer Michael Freedman.
Jace is one of those apprentices who has shown genuine ability right from the start and in his first 12 months he has ridden around 100 winners already.
Good judges regard him as a natural, and with this natural ability and reportedly a good work ethic, he has the potential to be the next rising (apprentice) star on the NSW provincial and metropolitan tracks, where he can claim 1.5kg and 3kg respectively.
Jace rode two winners last week, at Scone and Hawkesbury, one for Michael and one for Scott Singleton.
I was very impressed with his record in Queensland, and if he can repeat that form in NSW he will be worth watching.
The second rider who caught the eye last week was Ireland-born Robbie Downey, who relocated to Australia some three years ago.
At Kembla Grange Robbie rode a treble, from four rides.
Two of the wins were on favourites from the in-form Bjorn Baker stable, and the other was an easing $16.00 winner for Ciaron Maher. Bjorn has been giving Robbie rides on the country circuit recently and the association has been successful.
I really liked Robbie's positive riding, especially over the latter stages; a real determination to win the race, and that is always a good sign.
Typical for provincial/country jockeys, most often Robbie has been associated with lesser profile stables. To win these races last Saturday for the Baker and Maher stables could be a turning point in his fortunes. I hope so, and if these stables continue to engage Robbie his rides for other stables will be worth noting as well.

Wizard Freebie - Wizard Essentials report
The Wizard publishes on this page one of its Wizard reports or special features, either completely or a part thereof. Today it is a Wizard Essentials Wrat 4 report. The full report and all other reports for all meetings for today are available now for subscribers.
The Wizard Essentials report is a really useful source for the key data that all race handicappers need at their fingertips. Included are the Wizard's four ratings assessments, each focusing on different time-proven ways of rating runners, and other key (likely) performance indicators, some of which are unique to the Wizard. For example, the Filter and Negatives assessments, the in-running (pace) insights, and form pattern stats (RFS).

In addition to this Essentials WRat4 report there is also an Essentials Full-Field version available. Here is one race from that report for this meeting:
