Luke Campbell is a promising apprentice jockey based in Perth. Though interested in racing from an early age it wasnt until he started his fourth year of an air-conditioning and refrigeration engineering apprenticeship that he decided to turn his attention fully to racing. He was then fortunate to come under the guidance of renowned trainer Neville Parnham to whom he was apprenticed.

Even though Luke can still claim 1.5kg in the metropolitan area his success has not been limited to his home state. He rode 14 winners in and around Melbourne when he was on a three-month loan to the Maher-Eustace stable, at Caulfield and Flemington and on the provincial circuit. Now back in Perth, after being injured riding in Melbourne,  there is always the possibility that he could one day forge the same path as Damien Oliver and Damian Lane who left Perth to carve out successful careers in Melbourne.

• When the horse runs as the race favourite at odds between $2.00 and $5.90
• When the horse starts at odds between $2.00 and $5.90

The statistics cover the jockey's rides throughout Australia, with combinations that have 5 wins or more highlighted separately as well as being included in the body of the table. Included in the table are only those stables for which the jockey has registered at least one win in the $2.00 - $5.90 odds range during the period covered which is from 1 August 2022, so last season and the current season.

Trainer & Jockey combinations for (Ashley Maley)

Ashley Maley's training operation is based at Gingin, about 50km from Lancelin which is about three hours north of Perth, and where he also retains his original stables. He did not come from a traditional racing background unlike so many in this profession. Prior to becoming a trainer he worked in various other fields, the last being the owner of a hardware business. However, he had been riding horses from an early age and was a successful polocrosse player. It was his polocrosse experience, and that gained from breaking-in racehorses, that developed his horse-handling skills and an understanding of equine behaviour.

Ashley describes himself as "self-taught" when it comes to racehorse training. He had to learn and develop his own methods, especially given his stable's location away from major racetracks. As his original training base in Lancelin was 140 kilometers from the nearest racetrack he needed to be creative with his training methods. 

Ashley took out his trainers licence towards the end of 2010, but did not go 'full-time' until 2015. His training regime differed from the norm in that his "horses wouldnt do any more than one gallop a week, and thatd mainly be at the beach or out the bush." He has work riders but when possible, he still likes to ride his horses at least once a week so he can get a feel of how they are travelling.

Ashley's philosophy is to run his horses where he thinks they can win, and the length of the drive to the meeting is unimportant. This attitude continues to pay dividends as he is again in this seasons' top-20 of the W.A. Trainers Premiership.

Wizard Ratings Results for Saturday, July 6

The following table shows where the winner of each race run yesterday was rated by Wrat, Wmod, Whcp, and Wexpk. The Wrat analysis applies to both Wizard and Wizard Plus. The Wmod, Whcp, and Wexpk analysis applies to the ratings included in the Wizard Plus 'Plus Panel'.

The Wizard Ratings Results report includes the results of the top-two rated Wrat runners. This information should provide a better guide to those subscribers who are interested in backing two runners in a race (where odds are acceptable) or anchor two runners for multiples etc. (Note: Over the long term the top-two Wrat runners have won around 43% to 46%, and the top rated runner 25% to 27%, of races on a seasonal basis)
