Jade McNaught began race riding in mid-2018. Jade does not come from a family with a background in racing and she commenced a mature-age apprentice when she was 30 years old. Yet, in her first 12 months of her apprenticeship she had established herself as one of Perths leading apprentice riders.
Prior to embarking on her apprenticeship Jade had been involved in breaking-in and training young horses and riding trackwork. At one point she relocated to The Oaks in New South Wales, where she worked with equestrians Jess Stalling and Rhys Stones for two years. Then to Scenic Lodge in W.A. working with Jeremy Smith and later Tiarnna Robertson. She officially began her jockey apprenticeship indentured to Tiarnna but later transferred to the stables of Group One winning trainer Trevor Andrews
Highlights:
Won the Racing and Wagering WA 2019 Rising Star Apprentice Series
In September 2019 she won 6 races on a nine race card at Belmont Park in Perth, becoming the first apprentice jockey to do so.

Trainer & Jockey combinations and profile (Mitchell Pateman)
Mitchell Pateman is a jockey-turned-trainer based on Ascot racecourse in Perth. His late father, Michael Pateman, was a highly respected trainer and other family members are also active in the thoroughbred racing industry. During a 13 years career in the saddle Mitchell rode over 700 winners, 13 of them in stakes company. Following a serious injury from a race-fall, Mitchell decided to turn to training.
Whilst still in his 20's Mitchell saddled up his first runner, Speeding Comet, at Ascot in May 2021. Since then he has established himself as a most capable conditioner and placer of horses. He has trained Group winners, including This'll Testya who won the G3 Colonel Reves at Ascot, and then two starts later Thisll Testya finished 3rd in the Group 1 2022 Winterbottom Stakes. Currently Mitchell ranks in the top 20 of the W.A. Trainer Premiership.
