Jockey-Trainer provincial statistics - five states - SNAPSHOT on Jett Newman

Today, jockeys in each of the five mainland states who are currently prominent in their state 2025-2026 provincial premiership, with the stats covering the past two years. Note, however, that these stats cover the rider's results in all races, irrespective of location.

The Jockey/Trainer combinations that are included are based on the following criteria: The Jockey/Trainer combination is listed when a jockey's record shows at least 2 wins when riding the Wizard top-rater, or at least 3 wins when riding the race favourite, or 4 wins if the runner is in the $2.00 to $5.90 odds range, for that stable. Also included are the overall percentage stats for the jockey when riding a Wizard top rater or race favourite, for any stable.

To add to this weekly insight, here is a Snapshot Profile of Jett Newman (via ChatGPT, and other sources) which makes for some interesting reading.

Jett Newman is an apprentice jockey whose rise from pony clubs and showjumping to more than 100 winners in under two seasons has marked her out as one of the more promising young riders in the country. ttrausnz+2

Early life and racing family

Jett grew up in a racing family, the daughter of former Sydney apprentice and later trainer Mitch Newman and horsewoman Debbie Greaves. Her father rode with success in Sydney in the late 1990s and early 2000s, twice winning the Sydney apprentice premiership, before weight issues ended his career and he turned to training out of Hawkesbury. As a child Jett spent mornings in her father's stables, and developed an ambition from an early age to follow him into the saddle. Her mother oversaw a broad equestrian grounding, taking her through Pony Club, showing, hacks, hunters and showjumping before she focused fully on racing. equestrianlife+3

Pathway into racing

Before she was old enough to ride trackwork, Jett excelled in showjumping and then in pony racing, notably winning the Pony Racing final on Australia Day at Warwick Farm, which further fuelled her desire to become a jockey. At 15 she obtained a trackwork licence with Racing NSW and began riding work for Hawkesbury trainer and former jockey Claire Lever, benefiting from the guidance of both Claire and her jockey husband Chad Lever. She completed around 60 barrier trials, building confidence on thoroughbreds, before moving north to seek more race opportunities. equestrianlife.com+2

Main riding bases and circuits

Seeking a busier provincial and country environment, Jett relocated in early 2025 to Murwillumbah in the Northern Rivers of New South Wales to begin her apprenticeship with leading trainer Matthew Dunn. From this base she has ridden extensively on the Northern Rivers and Mid North Coast circuits. Living at Tweed Heads near the Queensland border has also allowed her to ride regularly in southeast Queensland, with Racing Queensland highlighting her as a young rider on the rise. racingqueensland+4

Key trainers and partnerships

Jett's most significant association has been with Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn, who took her on as an apprentice and supplied many of her early winners. The stable's large team, often around 80-85 horses in work, gave her consistent opportunities, including her debut winner Without Parallel and a fourwin haul at Ballina very early in her career. She has also ridden winners and important placings for other country trainers; for example, she partnered a Gunnedah Cup winner for trainer Mack Griffith and has taken rides for regional stables such as Kylie Kennedy and Sue Grills when travelling for country features. gunnedahtimes+4

Notable wins and achievements

Jett's first official race rides came at Murwillumbah in February 2025, where she finished second on one mount and then won on Without Parallel. Within weeks at one Ballina meeting she rode four winners and a second from five mounts, which was instrumental in her riding out her full fourkilogram claim. Through 2025 and into early 2026 she accumulated more than 80 wins to lead the Country Apprentice standings and surpass the milestone of 100 career winners while still a teenager. Among her early feature successes was her maiden Cup victory at Gunnedah on Osman. One of her standout achievements came during her first metropolitan appearance at Rosehill, where she rode a winning double - an uncommon feat for a young apprentice. That victory marked her arrival at a higher level. By early this year, Jett had surpassed 100 career wins in just over a year of race riding. Times News Group johntapp+5
