Jockey & Trainer combinations and profile (Andrew Mallyon)
Andrew Mallyon is currently based in Brisbane. He comes from a family deeply involved with racing. His father Brett was a jockey and trainer, and his grandfather, Mick Mallyon, was a legendary Cups winning rider.
Andrew was apprenticed to his father Brett, Matthew Ellerton, Simon Zahra, Trevor Andrews in Perth (on loan for three months), and David Hayes at various times. He rode his first winner in 2004 and his 1,000th in mid-2021. His first Group win came in 2009.
Andrew relocated from Victoria to Brisbane in September 2019, after discussing the possibility with Kris Lees. It has been a successful association. Now in his mid-30s he is settled in Brisbane, ridden Group winners, and taken his tally to near 1,200.
In mid-2022 Andrew suffered serious injury in a fall and was sidelined for four months. That is now behind him, and he finished the 2023-2024 season 14th in the Queensland Metropolitan Premiership on 22 wins, with a strike rate of 9.7%.

This information should provide a better guide to those subscribers who are interested in backing two runners in a race (where odds are acceptable) or anchor two runners for multiples etc. (Note: Over the long term the top-two Wrat runners have won around 43% to 46%, and the top rated runner 25% to 27%, of races on a seasonal basis)
